When climate control isn’t working right, all the fine handling and power in the world simply isn’t enough. If you’re looking to get your AC repaired and not certain who to trust with the imported engineering marvel you’re driving around, then you’re not alone and you’re also in luck!
Louden Motorcar Service of Dallas is here to help.
With over 4 decades of experience working with German vehicles, we not only know your brand, but we’re going to know your specific model and that means your AC can be fixed quickly, efficiently, and RIGHT.
Today we’re going to talk about some of the most common AC problems out there, as well as what is needed to fix them, and how you can help to keep them at bay in the first place.
As with any vehicle, German vehicles may experience AC issues and need a little TLC to get your climate control back to perfection. Here are the top 3 issues that we tend to see with German brands:
The key to avoiding issues like we’ve just described is a simple one that so many people seem to skip to their own detriment – Regular preventative maintenance as recommended by your manufacturer. Depending on your mileage and how regularly you are maintaining your vehicle, there are a host of checks that may be needed to ensure your AC is in tip-top shape.
Cleaning coils, checking your fan blades, looking for electrical problems, topping off refrigerant… These are just a few examples of the kind of preventative maintenance that will help you to get ahead of AC issues before it gets hot outside and ensure a cool, cool summer.
If you happen to live in Dallas or close to the DFW area, be sure to come and visit or call us and schedule an appointment to get your AC checked and any other preventative maintenance that you might have missed.
While it doesn’t burn fuel, your air conditioning system does use fuel indirectly. That’s because the alternator is powered by your engine and your engine is definitely consuming fuel. As far as how much fuel climate control is going to consume, it’s generally considered to be in the ballpark of 8 – 10% of fuel consumption.
Automotive air conditioning systems are fairly robust, so they will generally last for 8 to 10 years before the compressor is likely to give out on them. With regular preventative maintenance, you can get a little more time, but factors like local climate and usage habits are also going to have an impact on the lifecycle of these systems.
While it will depend on how severely damaged the AC has become and also what parts are needed (and whether or not they are on hand), barring these factors it’s usually a matter of anywhere between 3 and 6 hours of work.
For instance, residual gas has to be removed, air vents need to be cleaned, and things like removing the cooling coil and replacing fans are just a few examples of what goes into this kind of work. As such, it’s a good idea to make sure that you go with a mechanic who knows the make and model of your vehicle well – The more familiar they are with the vehicle and its AC system, the more efficiently it may be serviced.
At Louden Motorcar Services, we’ve been providing full-service repair and preventative maintenance since 1977, so we’re going to be sure to treat both you and your German import vehicle right.
So, why not come to Louden Motorcars and see the difference it makes having a German vehicle expert on your side – You’ll be very happy that you did!
