When your brakes aren’t working well, there’s no denying that you’ve got a problem. After all, power and maneuverability need to be tempered with control and your brakes are an important part of the equation – not to mention one of the most important safety features of your vehicle!
Brake repair doesn’t have to be a hassle, however, and at Louden Motorcar Services we’re equipped with the equipment, parts, and 4 decades of experience to ensure that your finely-engineered German vehicle is going to get back to stopping on a dime when you require it.
What’s more, we’ll also help you to keep it that way!
Today we’re going to take a look at some of the most common brake issues that you might run into, as well as talk about how regular preventative maintenance can prevent a lot of these problems well into the foreseeable future.
Without further ado, let’s talk about brake repair and what you need to know about maintaining your brake system!
With German vehicles, you may notice as brakes are wearing down that there is a lot of dust involved. This is actually normal – Vehicle brands like Mercedes Benz, Volkswagens, and BMWS incorporate softer compounds in their brakes that allow your brake pads to stick better to your rotors. This gives you enhanced stopping power but as you may have noticed, it comes with a bit more brake dust.
At Louden Motorcar Services, we’re well aware of issues like this and equipped to provide full service repair and preventative maintenance for your brakes or any other part of your German vehicle that needs it. Here are some examples of common brake issues that we deal with all of the time:
As they say, the best defense is a good offense, and for your vehicle that’s going to mean getting regular preventative maintenance on your brakes and other parts of your vehicle. Regular checks of your brakes not only help to ensure more granular control of your vehicle, but they’re also the main safety feature for you and for others on the road with you.
Calipers are generally going to last between 75,000 and 100,000 miles, although you also need to factor in things like local climate and weather factors, driving styles, and whether or not regular preventative maintenance is being kept up with to ensure that the brake system is at its best.
With routine inspections and proper maintenance, you can get closer to the 100,00 mile mark and perhaps a little beyond, but if you’ve been neglecting that part of vehicle ownership then you might get a whole lot less!
Your brake pads will usually need to be replaced between 10,000 and 20,000 miles, although you’ll want to defer to your manufacturer’s recommendations unless you have a bit of a heavy foot when it comes to the brakes.
Regular checkups are a good idea even if you don’t ride them, however, as they are arguably one of the most important safety features of your vehicle.
Pads, shoes, calipers, rotors, and drums… There’s a lot to your brake system that needs to be maintained in order to ensure that you’re got granular control and stopping power when you need it. Inspection comes first with any repair work, followed by recommendations for what needs to be done and whether or not the brake fluid might need to be flushed for good measure.
It’s like any other repair in that regard – the purpose is to ensure that the system is running as efficiently as possible – although regular preventative maintenance will keep the most expensive repairs at bay.
Thankfully, getting the maintenance you need doesn’t have to be a chore. Give us a call or come see us at Louden Motorcar Service of Dallas and let’s talk about your vehicle and the maintenance that it should be getting.
We can work with your schedule to make sure that your German import car is always getting what it needs and what’s more, that maintenance will be coming from a shop that’s been fixing German vehicles since 1977!
So, what are you waiting for? We look forward to meeting you and earning your business!
